GENERAL
  • Up to 8 participants, 2 or 4 week programme (optional FGASA exam), 1 to 2 start dates/month (Fridays).
  • Minimum age: 18.
TRAVEL AND TRANSFERS
  • Arrive/depart at Maun International Airport (MUB) on Fridays.
  • 2-hour road transfer between Maun airport and Okavango Delta camp (return) included in price.
MEALS & MORE

A Typical Day

Embark on an unforgettable African wildlife adventure at the safari camp. Days start at sunrise, filled with safari drives and nature walks exploring the African ecosystem. Breaks for meals and afternoon classes on wildlife guiding ideas follow. Evenings bring more bush adventures and post-excursion discussions before a delightful dinner. The course blends classroom sessions with hands-on experiences, utilizing safari vehicles, walking, motorboats, and mokoros. As trainees, you'll lead nature walks, navigate mokoros, and conduct game drives, simulating the responsibilities of a professional nature guide.

Nature Guide Training

In field guide training, expert guides cover Botswana's geology, ecology, astronomy, and weather. Learn navigation, bush survival, and tracking techniques for the African wild. Training includes motorboat/mokoro use based on the season, long game walks, and drives for deep bush exploration. Experience wilderness sleep-outs under the African night sky and firearm handling for safety. Days start early, exploring Botswana's wilderness, returning for lunch, rest, and classes. Afternoon game walks/drives hone new skills. Completion earns a certificate; for professional advancement, take the FGASA NQF2 exam for guiding in South Africa, divided into two two-week sessions.

FGASA Exam

A few days prior to course completion, theoretical and practical evaluations will take place. The written exam covers all subjects taught during the course. Meanwhile, the practical assessment requires each student to lead a game drive, with the student acting as a guide and their peers as safari guests. This hands-on test involves inspecting the vehicle, leading guests through the wilderness, and describing African plants and animals, assessing your abilities as a nature guide. Upon successfully completing both assessments, you will receive the official FGASA certificate.
